A Louis Phllippe Bleached finely figured Walnut Commode C1840, The fossil marble top above a shaped frieze and three further long drawers, supported on the original shaped block feet. It was the fashion on these early 19th century French pieces to have minimal mounts and metal decoration; a hangover from the Biedermier style that had started earlier in Austria and Germany. The key was used both to lock and to be turned and used as the handle for opening the drawers.
