The Louvre, Paris. Former palace and now a huge museum/gallery famed for artworks such as the Mona Lisa  and the Venus de Milo. The pyramid is a large glass and metal structure designed by Chinese-American architect I.M. This is the view from the lift starting at the top of the Eiffel Tower (approx. 330m high) down to the next level. It doesn't look too bad this way but I was slightly alarmed on the way up. It feels like there's little supporting the lift! #eiffeltower #eiffeltowerlift #paris #toureiffel #gustaveeiffel #notblackpooltower #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany

The Eiffel Tower from different angles on a rather damp day in Paris. Amazing construction all clearly visible as you climb the steps inside one of the legs. Take the slightly terrifying lift to the top where the views are far reaching... Swipe left for a taste of the tower and views. #eiffeltower #paris #france #lift #irontower #toureiffel #toureiffelparis #historicflyingclothingcompany #gustaveiffel #blackpooltower

Large nickel plated bronze RAF station bell with classic 'crown' top. This is the smaller of the two sizes produced, measuring approximately 30cm in height (not including protruding clapper when fitted) and 28cm diameter. Stamped 'A.T.W' with War Department broad arrow on the crown top and engraved to the side with King's crown A.M. marks and all important 1940 date. This example is complete with the often missing original clapper.  The crown top has been painted red and the entire bell may well have been this colour at some point. Other than giving it a quick clean we have left the bell in original condition. It has relatively minor 'dings', scratches and surface wear where it has been struck over the years but has a very pleasing overall patina commensurate with age. A superb, impressive and imposing display piece. New to the website but sold already.. #ww2 #raf #airministry #bell #1940 #vintagebell #battleofbritain #aviation #flying #scramble #wingsforvictory #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany

Help please! Does anyone recognise this patch / badge? It's on an original WW2 American M-41 field jacket with an English made 8th Army Air Force shoulder patch. WW2 RAF/ SOE escape and evasion pencil nib compass. British Bank No.433 nib by West Brooks & Co. Ltd. Leicester.  This appears to be a standard 'dip-pen' nib but close inspection reveals a tiny indentation punched in the centre at the balance point.  The nib is magnetised and by placing the indentation on a pivot would swing North.  Alternatively the nib could be carefully floated in still water to the same effect.  Excellent working condition and rare to find.  The final photograph shows the nib balanced on a mapping pin.  A recent sale on our website. #ww2 #raf #soe #specialoperationsexecutive #mi9 #escapecompass #escapeandevade #royalairforce #vintagepens #dippen #claytonhutton #prisonerofwar #compass #clandestinewarfare #pow #westbrooksandco #vintagewriting #aviation #flying #1940s #worldwartwo #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany

USAAF A-11 flying helmet manufactured by J. S. Menihan Corporation. Size extra large.  The leather is in very good condition - clean and fairly supple but rather crumpled and a little dry to the touch.  This early example has a basic press stud arrangement for oxygen mask attachment - two single studs on the left and a close pair on the right to take a 'flat hook' mask clip, one of which is attached.  With emboidered manufacturer's label. Rather than the external adjustable buckled strap at the nape of the neck this early helmet has a strip of elastic sewn internally. Unwired but we can supply the correct 'Y' loom at extra cost if required. #ww2 #usarmyairforce #usaaf #armyaircorps #vintageclothing #flying #flyinghelmet #1940s #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany #pilot #aircrew #aviation #aviationcollectables #8aaf #8thairforce #memphisbelle

RAF 1930 pattern flying helmet. Stores reference 22c/51.  Chestnut brown leather helmet with a chamois lining.  Wide leather chin strap with a simple friction buckle fastening.  Single rear goggle strap.  This example has been fitted with chamois lined earflaps, stores reference 22c/57,  for use with radio equipment or Gosport earpieces.  Also fitted with bakelite receiver carriers, stitched in place beneath the earflaps.  There is a faded label in the crown of the lining and a faint Air Ministry mark plus names of  previous owners. The 1930 pattern helmet replaced the MK.1 used by the RFC during the Great War and is also the forerunner of the type B introduced in 1935.  A good '+' to very good used example of this early RAF helmet. #Interwar #prewar #1930s #raf #airministry #royalairforce #flyinghelmet #vintageheadgear #vintage #pilot #aircrew #flying #warbirdkit #aviation #aviationcollectables #ww2 #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany

WW2 USAAF Suit, Summer, Flying AN6550.  Size medium (M38) but measures approx. 42" at the chest (pit to pit, zipped) and 35" at belt height.  Introduced in April 1943 to replace the A-4 this is a lightweight one-piece zip fronted pale green poplin suit with buttoned, flapped pockets at the chest and lower legs.  Buttoned ankle straps.  The cloth is in excellent clean condition showing very little wear or use.  Original brass Talon zip and belt.  Perhaps the most widely used suit by the AAF during WW2.  Super example. #ww2 #usaaf #armyairforce #flightsuit #flyingsuit #talonzipper #vintageclothing #1940s #1940sclothing #pilot #aircrew #aviator #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany #vintage #aviationcollectables

By Wilkinson Sword.  British made flyer's body armour, Type A with Type C apron.  Devised by the 8th AAF Surgeon Col. Malcolm Grow in conjunction with Wilkinson Sword, the anti-flak vest is comprised of three parts, front, rear and abdomen/groin.  Each section is constructed using overlapping manganese steel squares sewn into pockets within an heavy brown canvas covering.  This was backed with a soft brushed cotton for comfort.  It was equipped with a quick-release system using cords and lift-the-dot fasteners that allowed the entire suit to fall away from the airman in case of emergency.  Intended for use by gunners, navigators, bombardiers and radio operators, whose duties involved standing or moving around the aircraft.  Flak suits were issued from a 'pool' prior to missions and returned at the end of the 'Op' for use by outgoing crews.  They were developed as a direct result of injuries sustained by 8th AAF crews flying from England.  Initially there was considerable resistance and objection to wearing them but it is estimated that they reduced flak and bullet fatalities by 50% & injuries by 70%. These early development suits were manufactured by Wilkinson Sword in the UK but production was slow and later models were manufactured in America.  This example has British war department broad arrow marks.  The RAF used flak suits in limited numbers and it is possible that this is one of those. #ww2 #raf #usaaf #aaf #1940s #flakvest #antiflak #flak #bulletproofvest #8thairforce #wilkinsonsword #aircrew #pilot #flying #aviation #flyingclothing #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany #malcolmgrow #bombercommand #vintageclothing #wardepartment #memphisbelle #airgunner #waistgunner

This item was generally used by bomber command aircrew to help keep them warm at altitude. Lining, Electrically Heated Type G.  Size small, stores reference 22c/904.  One-piece button fronted collarless full length suit in brown Union twill.  To enable the wearer to don the garment more easily both legs have a single split from ankle to groin fastened with snap connectors.  The suit's electrical supply was taken through the attached flexible cable (umbilical) with a 3-pin connector/plug (5c/527). Snap connectors at the wrists and ankles accomodate the higher wattage 24 volt power supply and allowed the use of heated glove liners and booties to help provide the wearer with warmth at high altitudes. Complete with umbilical and plug.  Labelled. This is a reasonably good used example of what is now a very difficult suit to find. #ww2#raf #bombercommand #flyingsuit #vintageclothing #1940s #vintage #flightsuit #thehistoricflyingclothingcompany #aircrew #pilot #flying #aviation #aviationcollectables #heatedclothing #wartime #windak #royalairforce #airministry
